What did you do this past week?

Realistically, I feel that I did a whole lot of nothing this week. I spent some time on school, but there haven’t been as many major projects as the semester starts to wind down. I worked over the weekend from home, and I racked up 15 hours Friday and Saturday which was actually enjoyable. I am nearing the end of a 4 month project I’ve been working on at my internship, so I’m excited to get the full project wrapped together and put into production. I’m hoping to keep up with the project until August when my internship ends to hear feedback from product support from customers. Outside of that, I would say the gaps were filled in by video games, and my friends and I have been binge watching Avatar the Last Airbender which is just a blast-from-the-past and an amazing show.

What’s in your way?

I suppose this week, there isn’t much in my way. I feel a little behind in school, but I am not typically the best student. I just go through the test catch up cycle and repeat. I have a Chemistry test tomorrow at 8 pm, so I am working on catching up a lot, basically all the content since the last test. Luckily, my other grades have been good, so I’m hopeful to follow suit.

What will you do next week?

Next week, I will be going golfing after my best friend hits the deadline from his mandatory 14-day quarantine since he flew back from California. I’m hoping it isn’t too crowded since it’s only the second weekend since the courses have opened back up. Looking forward to next Saturday. Like I said, I have a test tomorrow, so I have that for me. The only other major thing this week is creating a video presentation for this class. I have some hours to put into work, but I have nothing more planned at the moment.

What was your experience of more refactoring?

I enjoyed the refactoring lessons from this week. While I disagreed with some of the smaller implementation ideas such as calling functions twice instead of storing them in variables, but I agree with the grand ideas. I actually faced a problem at my internship yesterday where I had to refactor a method so that I could implement some new REST endpoint logic. The was no inheritance refactoring, but I still thought about what we learned in class.

What made you happy this week?

I really enjoyed the progress I made at work the past few days. I have moved over to a new project with thousands of lines of code, so it’s a little difficult to start being productive at first. This weekend, I felt it click. That made me very happy.

What is your tip-of-the-week?

Call you family if you haven’t talked to them in a while. My parents have missed me a lot, and we caught up for hours today. I really enjoyed how they’re making the most of the quarantine and how their small business, while impacted, looks like it’s going to make it.
